Capcom kicked things off for Tokyo Game Show 2026 with its spotlight reel. The company was more update-heavy rather than being reveal-heavy. While Capcom didn’t reveal anything brand new, they did dive into some of the updates coming for their games.

First up: Mega Man: Dual Override

This presentation was a bit of a deep dive into what Mega Man: Dual Override is about. Capcom took care to reiterate that “Dual” is a reference to the fact that Mega Man and Proto Man are both fully playable. The most exciting thing is that they aren’t just the same movesets with different skins. Capcom’s message is basically that Proto Man isn’t just a bonus character. He’s essentially a second progression track for players. Proto Man has shields he can use to block, charge shield attacks, and the progression of power differs as well. Mega Man gets his traditional Robot Master weapons, while Proto Man gains new Shield Actions through the game.

They have given much more attention to the Custom Chip system, stating that there are more than 50 chips that have active and passive effects that will change how either character plays in significant ways. Rapid fire Buster shots, a protective barrier, and hovering are just a few examples. Capcom has described this as a way of letting players tailor their approach instead of forcing everyone into a single, fixed playstyle.

The Override system essentially removes the character’s limiter temporarily which will significantly boost the character’s capabilities. However, there’s a downside after using this as some abilities will be unavailable for a little bit. That risk/reward element had already been introduced, but Capcom spent more time diving into how it works alongside chips.

To wrap the Mega Man presentation: Stages will have three areas per level rather than following the same old Mega Man stage formatting. Twinkle Girl gameplay was shown as well. Dual Override has a release window of Spring 2027 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC.

Oh yeah, and for you that enjoy Pragmata and are just dying to have a little Mega Man mixed in, the Mega Man Pack is free and releases on September 17th. Hugh gets some Mega Man-themed outfits, Diana gets Roll-themed outfits, and there are multiple visual styles available for each. There are also gestures and some music that can be played in the Shelter.
