Final Fantasy VII Revelation Is Set To Close Out the Remake Series
The release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation has finally been revealed. After 12 years, the Remake series will finally come to a close in April 2027.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally has a confirmed release date. The long-awaited culmination lands on all platforms April 8, 2027 and I could not be more excited. Judging by what Square Enix has in store for players, the series will not be going out quietly. Everything is set to be bigger than ever before and I simply cannot wait.
If you had asked me back in 2015 when Remake was announced, you’d have found me giving a completely different viewpoint on this series. I used to live firmly in the camp of people who weren’t the biggest fans of the game. I used to state that the game felt overrated and that people tended to over-hype the game. I knew the story beats and I had played it before. The problem was that it was marred by the fact I played Final Fantasy VIII before I had played VII. VIII was my entry to the series so it became my favorite.
I never had a true appreciation for Final Fantasy VII until I replayed the original ahead of Remake’s release in 2020. I enjoyed it significantly more than I remember. I paid attention to the story beats. Aerith’s death in the original actually brought me to tears. The game was absolutely brilliant. Then Remake came out swinging and saying, “Here, hold my beer.”
Remake gave me an even bigger appreciation for a game that fans have held dear to them for decades now. I saw that finally when I played it. And now? I think it’s been getting exactly the credit and hype that it deserves.
The world will be more open to players than it was even in Rebirth. With the Highwind available for world traversal, players will have even more freedom to approach the game how they want. Flying the Highwind to a location, players will be able to skydive from the airship down to the ground and start exploring to their heart’s content. Videos have shown that the world is alive as you fall, with some of the Weapons being visible throughout the world.
Moreover, the game will be finally giving us the final two party members: Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine. Cid will add fun new mechanics with one of his signature attacks resembling the Dragoon’s Jump ability. Meanwhile, Vincent’s transformation, which was a Limit Break, will now be triggerable at any time, making his playstyle a hybrid between ranged fighting or melee fighting. After playing Rebirth and getting a real feel for Cid in that game with just his personality, I very much look forward to seeing more of him in Revelation.
On top of all of this, the developers have added what is essentially a job system into the game. This system is called FITS and with it you have a choice of four different ways to play: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. What’s even better is that once the FITS system becomes available, all four roles are available at the same time rather than the player needing to unlock them. And judging by the questions and feedback being given, you won’t have to wait long into the game to get access to FITS.
One point of contention in Rebirth was the way that side content was done. Hamaguchi acknowledged that some players felt overwhelmed with the amount of content Rebirth had. Revelation, however, is apparently being developed to give players freedom over what they engage with and how rewards are distributed. As much as I loved doing the side content in Rebirth, I am someone who very much feels like I can’t move on until I have all the checkmarks done.
Let’s not forget Queen’s Blood. I, for one, very much enjoyed absolutely demolishing players 48 - 0 in Queen’s Blood with my Midgarsormr card and just eating up both mine and my opponent’s cards. Brutal efficiency to say the least. I can’t help but wonder how they are going to build on this system and apparently Red XIII is going to have a more prominent showing in the Queen’s Blood side quests. Given what they did with him in Rebirth during the Queen’s Blood tournament, I can’t wait to see how his quest plays out.
Revelation is shaping up to be a standout within the 3-part series and doesn’t look like Rebirth 2. With the devotion the developers are showing to the project, the series is on a good track to be lovingly closed out with this final chapter. I, for one, cannot wait.
